WHAT DO I BRING?

Stressing about what to pack? This is a basic list of necessities and recommended things to bring. If you can't fit all of it into your luggage- don't fret, they aren't all essential. We also recommend speaking to your roommate if there are things you both plan on bringing. Also, refer to any Exec/RA member if you have questions about any aspect of packing... even if you are wondering about things that aren't on this list!

The Musts

  • Bedding - twin sized (bring two sets if you can, but one is fine)

  • Pillows

  • Towels (face, hands and body)

  • Clothing hangers

  • Laundry supplies - detergent, dryer balls, etc. (Bennett has 3 washers and dryers in the basement that are free to use!)

  • Laundry hamper/bag

  • Toiletries and shower caddy

  • School supplies - bring what you like to take notes with, you'll figure out what you like and don't like as the semester goes on (you can always buy more supplies as needed downtown or at the bookstore)

  • Health card, ID (arguably the most important things)

  • Summer, fall, winter clothing

  • RAIN GEAR IS IMPORTANT!! Sackville can get pretty wet.

  • Winter gear can usually wait until after winter break or Thanksgiving

  • Semi-formal and formal attire

  • Clothes you don't mind getting dirty and/or wet

  • LOTS of blue and yellow to rep Bennett's colours during the year! (see below)

The Shoulds

  • Flip flops (shower shoes)

  • Slippers

  • Alarm clock (for those 8:30am classes)

  • Ethernet cable (Bennett has wifi but it can get slow)

  • Mattress topper (makes your bed more comfy)

  • Poster/Pictures/other decorations for your room (sidenote: There is also a poster sale at the beginning of the year so don't worry if you don't have room for tons of decorations)

  • Sticky tack

  • 3M hooks (these are hooks that can be attached to the wall to hang things without screws- found at stores like Walmart or Staples)

  • Running shoes (Bennett is next to the fitness centre after all)

  • Whiteboard markers (for the whiteboard next to your door)

  • Water bottle or travel mug if you like having drinks with you in class

  • Kleenex, Advil, Benadryl, allergy meds etc. (super handy in the winter)

  • First Aid Kit

The Cans

  • Kettle (there is a kettle in the kitchen as well that everyone can use)

  • Fan (your rooms will be VERY warm for the first couple weeks)

  • Speakers

  • Non-wireless printer & ink (you won't be able to use a wireless printer in Bennett)

  • Shoe mat

  • Bathrobe

  • A mirror (there is one provided in the room but you may want another)

  • Dishes and cutlery (if you ever want to whip up a snack in the kitchen)

  • Lamp (there are lamps provided in your room but you may want to bring an extra one)

  • Floor rug

  • Organizational units (baskets, shoe organizer, etc.)

  • Cleaning supplies (there is also a student closet on each floor with a broom, mop, and vacuum)

  • Musical instruments, sport equipment, video games & gaming consoles

  • Small plant (Sackville has a super cute plant shop downtown!)

DO NOT BRING

  • wireless printers - they tamper with the house wifi (plus your RA will hunt you down)

  • hot plates/other cooking devices (you wont need it anyways, we have a full kitchen in the basement)

  • space heaters (you can get one through housing if you need it)

  • animals (as cool as it would be to have a pet hedgehog in your room, please don't! Someone could be allergic... also no fish or aquatic creatures)

  • microwaves (you don't need one, theres one in the kitchen)

  • candles (no open flames in res! It's a fire hazard)

Themed Events

At Mount Allison there are a lot of different events and activities, some are formal, semi-formal, themed, etc. Because Sackville is so small it can be hard to find the right attire on short notice so you may want to bring these things from home (especially if you live far away). Don't worry if you don't have room though! Sackville still has the Salvation Army, The Dollar Store, Jean Coutu and there is lots of shopping in Moncton too (which is about 25 minutes away). So here is a list of some of the events as well as an optional packing list!

  • Barbecue Dance-Off (LOTS of blue and yellow)

  • Sackvegas- Formal attire

  • Homecoming - school colors! (Garnet & Gold)

  • Electric Edwards - Tight and Bright! Grab your neon!

  • Halloween- If you have a costume in mind it's great to bring! But if you don't the Salvation Army is always solid.

  • BigBen - usually a throwback themed

  • Christmas banquet - formal attire

  • Last Class Bash - semi-formal attire

  • Two-Years Eve - formal attire

  • First Class Bash - semi-formal attire

  • Cancun Campbell - beach themed

  • Windsor Mardi Gras - mardi gras themed

  • St. Patricks Day/Hunton Gets Lucky - green everything

  • Bennett Banquet - formal attire

  • Ascars - formal attire

  • There are quite a bit of formal/semi-formal events! Lots of dressy clothing :)
